Screenprinting

Finally I managed to get a few screenprints done.

It's been a bit of a task as I didn't have a few of the materials I needed to get a good quality print.  Had to use duct tape around the frame instead of the waterproof tape needed.  Also had trouble with the stencil I was using.  I tried using an old x-ray, which was o.k. but really hard to cut with a blade. So in the end I used screen filler which blanks out the areas that you don't want to print.

I am pretty happy with the result.  It's been a while since I've screenprinted.

I experimented with fabrics and I think that I'll now continue to experiment with each panel and perhaps make something with them like a bag??

During the week I looked at the blog of two ladies in Melbourne called Ink & Spindle. Here's their link http://www.inkandspindle.com.au/
I loved their philosophy, their workspace, and the way they mix their colours with an old mixmaster. Very inspiring.

Here's a couple more of my screenprints.  These were done on paper, printed over the top of some of my first attempts using the x-ray film. They remind me of Gauguin's cut-outs.

HI Loukie, the Prints Charming girls just use A4 printer paper for their stencils and use masking tape to secure it to the screen - I've also used a more durable paper that can cope with a few rinses - it's available from S&S art suppliers. I like your designs and the Ink and Spindle girls are also great - they usually attend the Sydney Stitches and Craft Show - with a heap of other indie textile designers - well worth it!

Love the design and red always looks great. I look forward to seeing the bag. It would be great to get to Stitches and Craft and have a look at what other people are doing.

Thanks for the advice Handmade. Will try that next time - sounds simpler? And I agree with you Caz, would love to go, August I think.
